ICBC

If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident, ICBC may cover your chiropractic treatments. You are pre-authorized 25 treatments from a chiropractor. We bill ICBC directly, so you won’t have to submit receipts for reimbursement. Additional visits may be available if needed. No referral is required.

Under ICBC Enhanced Care Accident Benefits, all British Columbians injured in a crash on or after May 1st, 2021 have access to care and treatments for as long as needed.

We have listed most commonly asked questions to help you understand your injury benefits and any other questions you may have.

Do I qualify?

Whether you're a driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist, you'll be covered if you're injured in a crash – even if you're found responsible (at fault) for the crash.

What do you need to do?

Report your MVA
• Make sure you check in with either your family doctor or hospital as needed
• Find a clinic that offers ICBC direct billing for the service of your choice
• Book your appointment and share your claim # and claim specialist’s contact information
• Take care of yourself and follow treatment plans!

What am I covered for?

If you're injured in a crash, Enhanced Accident Benefits will help you with medical costs, wage loss and more. It is the responsibility of ICBC claim representatives to explain what benefits are available to you.

When can I see my chiropractor and other health practitioners?

In order to get care without pre-approval from ICBC the ‘early access period’ is allotted for the first 12 weeks following a crash. If care is initiated after 12 weeks since the crash, the clinic will have to seek approval from the ICBC claim specialist before care.

What proof is required for health care?

The appropriate proof required differs depending on the benefit and the circumstances of the claim, which ICBC claim representatives will advise on.
ICBC will make coverage decisions based on the available medical evidence. A doctor or medical practitioner will determine the care, but ICBC will work with them to provide access to the services and recovery benefits needed for as long as they are needed.

How long am I covered for?

If you visit within 84 days (12 weeks) of the date of the accident, you will be pre-approved for 25 chiropractic treatment sessions. Once you begin treatment, we will be assessing your progress and continue treating you until you feel completely better. If you visit after 84 days (12 weeks) of the date of accident, we will communicate with your ICBC claims specialist to determine if they will approve you for health care services.

How long after the accident do I need to wait until I am eligible for treatment?

You don't need to wait at all! Before your arrival, we will ask for the following;
• Claim Number
• Claim Specialist's name, email, and phone number

I was in a car accident while at work, is that WorkSafeBC or ICBC?

WorkSafeBC will be your primary coverage in which ICBC will become the secondary and pay the remainder of any expenses WorkSafeBC is not able to cover. In the case that you have applied for WorkSafeBC, we will request the following;
• Claim Number
• Case Manager's name, email, and phone number

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need to book an appointment!
